2011
2011 was supposed to be the year when everything changed. Protests erupted across the planet, largely as a response to the worsening economic situation that followed the 2007β 08 financial crash.

All of the major movements that rose up in 2011 β [[Occupy]], the [[15-M Movement]] and the [[Arab Spring]].
Rather than attempting to take control of the state through elections or other means, and bring about reform and indeed transformation that way, these movements were seen to be carving out spaces of autonomy within territories governed by the state. The hope was that, eventually, these [[autonomous zone]]s would link up and federate, and through doing so lead to the state and other forces of domination withering away, not through centrally managed policies but through their increasing irrelevance to peopleβs lives.
β [[Anarchist Cybernetics]]
Icelandβs β[[pots and pans revolution]]β β so named because of the noise protestors made by banging kitchen implements together when they surrounded the parliament in ReykjavΓk β is, like Occupy, 15M and the Arab Spring, rooted in the financial crash of 2008
