Getting outside the social industry
What are some ways to get outside the social industry? To break the pattern of railing against the spectacle just being part of the spectacle. Like some of the stuff Adorno chats about as being outside the culture industry. Maybe the cyberflaneur stuff. That kind of stuff, draw on some of these movements and look for parallels.
Let's say that the connection is axiomatic. Everything else (likes, replies, etc) is spectacle unless proven otherwise. What new forms can we find that are completely outside of what has gone before? Avoid the formula of the social industry.

Since “systems” are human constructions and can be thought of in infinitely many complex ways, we have to be clear about how we’re framing any particular system of interest. For example, what are its boundaries? What perspective are we taking when talking about it? How do its parts interact? And so forth. :wikify:
It helps when framing a system to know why we’re even talking about it in the first place! Sure, we can wax poetic about abstract notions of “systemsness,” but ultimately, thinking about things as systems is useful because it helps us to understand the world and solve problems. When analyzing or discussing systems, try to ground them in the practical context of real-world problems or phenomena, or the conversation will likely go nowhere fast :wikify:
Systems thinking is concerned with expanding our awareness to see the relationships between parts and wholes rather than looking at just discrete, isolated parts. :wikify:
Systems thinking – the term given to the modern rebirth of holistic thinking in academic and professional fields – compels us to listen to our instincts, break down barriers, see the bigger picture, explore possibilities, and relearn much of what we’ve already known. :wikify:
One, we have to organize a mass base within the working class, particularly around the job-focused side of the just transition framework. We have to articulate a program that concretely addresses the class’s immediate and medium-term need for jobs and stable income around the expansion of existing “green” industries and the development of new ones, like digital fabrication or what we call community production, that will enable a comprehensive energy and consumption transition :wikify:
We have to weaken their ability to extract, and this entails stopping new exploration and production initiatives. This is critical because it will weaken their power, particularly their financial power, which is at the heart of their lobbying power. If we can break that, we won’t have to worry about the centrists, as you put it. :wikify:
