Today I woke up with these lines in my mind: [https://donellameadows.org/archives/lines-in-the-mind-not-in-the-world/ Lines in the Mind, Not in the world by Donella Meadows].
It begs many questions:
Why do we pay more attention to the person far away than the person in the room?
Why do we draw lines where there aren't any?
The lines are only words. Imagine a world without words? I wrote a poem about this called [[Make Believe]].
I wrote another poem about boundaries called [[Edges]].
We see objects.
But do we?
Look carefully...
Solid lines are illusions.
We can overcome this illusion by looking closely at any painting.
The great artists show us this. Time after time.
And we can't see relationships.
And we often can't even imagine those distant in time, especially those beyond our lifetime or humanity's current life time.
Imagine a world without words...
In the beginning was the word and the word was God.
Actions speak louder than words.
Attention is precious.
100% attention is pure love. It is rarely bestowed. It is the most valuable thing in the world. It heals.
There are other things we can't see: Temperature. Intensity of light. Anxiety. Fear. Love. They are not on any map or photo but they are very real.
We create words from other words. Language is emergent. Meaning is emergent.
Yesterday I watched the final of the global competition, Map the System. 8 presentations. 8 separate systems. But there was no separation. Inequality was the theme of all.
But even inequality is only a word!
Does it matter?
It only matters when I believe it matters.
Why do we want to help those worse off than ourselves?
Who decided that there was inequality?
Equality is sameness.
Diversity creates.
Money is a word...
The houynhnhnms in Gulliver's Travels knew this.
How do we value/monetize the things we can't see?
EG...the developer and the platform owner. The developer thinks my stuff is worthless til its monetized. The marketer thinks I will monetize this and take 2/3 of the money.
K&M think we will give it away for free....but will that scale?
Will people listen to/value things that are free?
When I walked in a room when my client was paying £3000 a day they shut the f**k up and listened. They paid attention. Especially when they thought it would make them more money.
Will they listen to this most precious thing I am making freely available?
