Either as a result of capitalism's totalizing nature, or as a result of owning the means of production, capitalism also owns social knowledge, and to its own ends.

Science, in its most broad definition, could be described as the collection of all social knowledge. We literally do not need to reinvent the wheel. However capital appears to own society's social knowledge for its own ends. Mathematics, chemistry, physics, and the like are all put to use for the accumulation of capital.

Can science and technology be separated from capitalism?
